Beachfront Retirement Community
Siesta Key, Florida is an eight-mile-long barrier island connected to Sarasota by two bridges.
The community was founded in 1846. While conveniences are easily accessible, Siesta Key is still remote enough to give one a feeling of old Florida. During the winter, on the occasional day when the temperature drops, the warm water of the Gulf of Mexico keeps the temperature on Siesta Key warmer than that found further inland during a cold snap.
Siesta Key Florida – Rated in the Top 10 Beaches of Florida
Siesta Key's Crescent Beach is consistently rated in the top 10 beaches of Florida, the U.S. and the world. Crescent Beach has accumulated many awards in recognition of its soft, clean, pure white sand. Harvard University's Geology Department found the sand to be made of 99% pure quartz. Unlike most beaches that are made of crushed shells, rocks or lava, the sand is pure white, fine as sugar and never gets hot. The quartz sand attracts many people who come to Siesta Key, Florida just to feel the vibration of the sand. Turtle Beach is located at the south end of the Key. Although the sand there is slightly less fine than at Crescent Beach, it has many sea shells.
Point of Rocks is a mariners' landmark made of a shallow formation of limestone rock that extends into the Gulf of Mexico from mid Siesta Key. Legend is that pirates used Point of Rocks as a burial place for their treasures.
