Siloam Springs AR History
On May 28, 1881, Siloam Springs was incorporated as a town. By December of that year, the town's population was 2264 and Siloam Springs' status was raised to "City of the Second Class." The local economy could not sustain this boom, and by 1890 the population had dropped to 1825. In December 1893, the railroad reached Siloam Springs, thus causing the population to rise once again. In 1919, Southwestern Collegiate Institute, later renamed John Brown University, was established as a non-denominational Christian university.
