Senior Travel Destination
Concord, California is a senior travel destination and retirement community in the Bay Area.
Concord CA History
A small tribe of Chupcan Indians first inhabited the valley. The Chupcan lived along the valley's streams. In 1772, Spanish explorers led by Captain Pedro Fages and Father Juan Crespi became the first outsiders to cross this area. For the next 50 to 60 years, the Spanish explored, but did not settle in the valley.
In 1834, Don Salvio Pacheco received the Monte del Diablo land grant from Mexico. The 17,921 acres encompassed the valley from the Walnut Creek channel east to the hills and from the Mt. Diablo foothills north to the Bay. Don Salvio's son, Fernando Pacheco, immediately began cattle operations on the Pacheco family's new Rancho. The family eventually joined him in 1846.
In 1868, Don Salvio Pacheco, his son Fernando, and his son-in-law Francisco Galindo created a new town at the center of their Rancho. They called their new town Todos Santos (All Saints). In 1869, they offered lots free to area merchants and residents. Within months after Todos Santos became the town’s name, the area newspaper changed the name to Concord. Concord incorporated in 1905.
