Senior Travel to Molokai Hawaii Hawaiian Island Vacation Resorts

Molokai, Hawaii offers a very relaxed, peaceful island vacation experience for senior tourists.

Molokai HI History

The earliest inhabitants came from the Marquesas to live on Molokai about 650 A.D. Later, voyagers in double-hulled canoes came from Tahiti and other areas in the South Pacific.

Molokai was renowned for the wisdom and power of its religious leaders who were greatly respected and often feared by others in the Hawaiian Islands. In the 1500’s, pilgrims came from all the Islands to seek the wisdom and advice of the famous prophet, Lanikaula. Molokai became a place of retreat, protected from war by its religious prestige and the marital alliances of its chiefs. Legend tells of the Kalaipahoa, or poisonwood gods, entering trees on Maunaloa. The grove was so poisonous that birds fell dead as they flew over it. Legend also tells that Laka, goddess of the hula, gave birth to the dance on Molokai. Molokai was the center of the hula dance that has flourished throughout Hawaii.

In 1778, Captain James Cook sighted Molokai on his first visit to the Hawaiian Islands. No European set foot on the island until 1786 when Captain George Dixon anchored off Molokai's coast. In 1832, Reverend Harvey Hitchcock established a Protestant mission on the island.

Molokai Hawaii – The Hawaiian Island Lost in Time

Today, Molokai is like no other Hawaiian island. Here, life is slow and relaxed with no glitz and glamour. It is like stepping back in time 50 years to a rural and peaceful island lost in time.
