Orange Beach AL History
11,500 years ago, Native American Indians first visited the area that is now known as Orange Beach, Alabama. During the past one hundred years, boat builders and charter fishermen founded the city. Orange Beach grew from a coastal wilderness into a fast growing modern resort area. The charter fishing industry played a large part in the city’s growth.

Orange Beach is located on the Gulf of Mexico and has access to the interior bays and bayous lying just north of Perdido Pass. Most of the city is on Pleasure Island, a man-made Island that developed when the Intracoastal Waterway was formed, separating it from the mainland. Downtown Orange Beach is located on the east end of the island.
The city is home to the largest Charter Fishing Fleet on the Gulf of Mexico. They offer a wonderful variety of inshore and offshore saltwater fishing opportunities as well as sailing, diving, sightseeing and dinner cruises. In addition, the city of Orange Beach, Alabama has an NAFL football team, the Alabama Lightning. The resort town also has great shopping with national retailers, boutique-style shops and beach stores, dining, entertainment with a resort-style ambiance. The city is known for its Southern hospitality, semi-tropical climate and miles of sugar white sand beaches, making it a favorite vacation spot for many seniors.
