Washington, District of Columbia is the country’s most prominent tourist destination for seniors. The City is very compact, with most of its hotels and attractions concentrated in its Northwest section.
To stay near the National Mall, the Washington Convention Center or the Verizon Center, find a hotel in the downtown neighborhood where there are also many trendy restaurants. Hotels located in Southwest DC are also close to the National Mall and the waterfront. Dupont Circle is known for its galleries, cafés and embassies. Historic Georgetown is the city's shopping district and another great dining destination, while Capitol Hill is near Union Station, the Library of Congress, the National Mall and the Capitol.
Many major attractions do not require tickets, including the Smithsonian museums, the National Zoo, the National Gallery of Art and national monuments and memorials. Washington, DC's most popular ticketed attractions are the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Washington Monument and International Spy Museum. Other popular tour sites are the White House, the Capitol, the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court and Ford's Theatre.
