Located near the Mediterranean Sea, Murcia Spain is a popular destination for senior travelers. It is considered by many to be the most beautiful city in Spain. The City was established more than 800 years ago and is the capital of the region and home to a large university. With a population of more than 400,000, Murcia is the ninth largest city in the country.
Some notable landmarks to visit include the Cathedral de Santa Maria, Almudi Palace and the castle of Monteagudo, a fortress from the 11th century. The Baroque Cathedral was completed in the 15th century. A definite Moorish influence in architecture can be seen throughout Murcia. After conquering the Moors, the twenty mosques were turned into churches.
Other places to visit are the Malecon Garden, the Museum Ramon Gaya and the Market de Veronicas. The locals sell hand-made weaving and embroidery that is well worth seeing. At the Convent Church of Santa Ana, you can buy delicious freshly baked cakes that the nuns make.

This is a city that senior travelers tend to visit more than once just to enjoy the beauty and friendliness of the area.
