Senior Travel to Oslo Norway Capital of Norway

Oslo has been the capital of Norway, home of Parliament and the Royal Palace since 1814. The city is located at the head of the Oslo Fjord and covers an area of nearly 280 square miles of forestland and hills. It is the most populated city in Norway with over half a million inhabitants.

A popular Scandinavian destination for senior travelers, the city has many tourist attractions and excellent restaurants. The National Theater, Parliament, the Royal Palace and the University of Oslo are located on Karl Johans gate, the city’s main street. One of Oslo's most visited public areas is Vigeland Park, where one can see 212 sculptures by Gustav Vigeland. Not to be missed is the medieval fortress and castle of Akershus, which has a changing of the guards every day and guided tours.

Oslo has many miles of cross-country ski trails and eight ski areas within its border. In the winter, tourists can take a dog sleigh ride in the forest and snow ski enthusiasts can enjoy the annual Holmenkollen Ski Festival. One can reach the ski area by taking a short subway ride from the center of Oslo. During the summer it is only a ten-minute boat ride from the city’s center to the beaches of the Oslo Fjord islands. Whether visiting in the summer or winter, Oslo Norway is always a fun tourist destination for senior travelers.
