Burnet was first established as a fort in the mid 1800's where people on the Texas frontier would go for protection from the Indians. The actual town was founded in 1852 and first named Hamilton. Six years later, the name was changed to Burnet since there was already another Hamilton,Texas.

As the county seat of Burnet County, Burnet is a hub of industry, commerce, and trade in the Highland Lakes area. Burnet has maintained its pioneer roots and rural charm. Its schools, hospital, airport, and retail centers provide all the essentials, while the scenic countryside and inviting parklands offer many opportunities for those who want to get away from it all.
