Kingsland TX History

Kingsland was first called Kingsville for Martin D. King who had purchased the land with J. M. Trussell where the town was located in 1877. The town was the site of a cotton gin and a small trading center in the 1880’s. Activity increased with the extension of the railroad through Kingsville in 1892. By 1901 the community was known as Kingsland.

A popular site in Kingsland is Lookout Point. The rock formations go back millions of years and teachers bring their students to Kingsland to study them. The two rivers at Kingsland are the Llano River and the Colorado River. From Kingsland you can boat up the Llano River, then up the Colorado River several miles, and down Lake LBJ all the way to Horseshoe Bay, which is over 20 miles.

The area provides all types of summer water sports, including fishing, boating, water skiing and swimming. "The Slab" is a popular gathering point on the Llano River just upstream from Kingsland. There is plenty of sand for sunbathing, picnics, games, etc. The water is shallow and perfect for wading.
