One of the first things you should do in Dénia is find a good place to eat paella – the fabulous rice dish of this region. This area is where they claim that paella originated and I’m certainly not going to argue. The city actually boasts 2 hugely famous paella restaurants but I’m making this recommendation based on personal preferences of locals. They say that for the money and the quality, La Casa de Arroz is the hands-down winner. It’s located in the main plaza on Calle Campos (main street) at the end by the pergola (the opposite end from the port). Walk by and check out the menu and ask for a reservation. Pretty much any rice dish that you order is wonderful. Always eat paella for lunch at around 2 or 3pm (yes, that’s normal in Spain), and try to resist ordering it for your evening meal. The Spaniards will appreciate your cultural awareness.
