Dénia is an interesting mix of old and new and provides a variety of activities, or just a nice place to lay on the beach. There are markets and festivals regularly, with the highlight being Las Fallas in the spring. Building-sized paper maché creations that satirize the government (or some other similar topic) are built by highly skilled artesans, then judged, and then burned to the ground in a spectacular finale. Check the internet for exact dates, but also know that most big celebrations come with LOTS of fireworks, at all hours of the day and night. So if you prefer peace and quiet you’ll want to avoid the bigger festivals. If, on the other hand, you like to see and do new things, Las Fallas is fantastic.
